New Designers is the UK's biggest Graduate Design Showcase

New Designers is the UK's biggest graduate design showcase. It works with over 200 universities and presents work from over 3000 graduates to discover the next generation of young designers, animators, and creators. A hub for inspiration, a room full of dreams and talent, this creative collection will harness tomorrow's future.
Our very own George Hopkins showcased his graduate work at New Designers and featured his work on the front cover in 2018. He designed and created a series of tables utilising Jesmonite, a sustainable acrylic composite material with a marble-type aesthetic.
This year, JDD Furniture was honoured to be invited to judge the event for furniture design and share our knowledge and thoughts with the graduates. It allowed us to share real-life experiences and set them off in the right direction.
We were thrilled to judge the show and observe every detail of their work, from the materials used to fully understanding their thought and design processes. We also talked with them in person to learn more about their personalities and how they overcame their challenges, including the technological limitations of their environment.
We were blown away by the level of quality and imagination all the graduates showed, but one stood out, not just for her result but also for her passion and attention to detail in her research. Amelia Pegrum showed how less is sometimes more, with a perfect balance between simplicity, style, and ergonomics. She had also considered her carbon footprint by using sustainable materials, opting for plywood and shaping and bending the wood herself with homemade jigs.
We are truly excited about the prospect of inviting Amelia to our HQ. We can't wait to get her involved with our research & development team and see what innovative ideas she can bring. Her unique perspective and passion for sustainable design will be a valuable addition to our team.
